Itac recommends import duties on top-loader washing machines from China, Thailand
The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) has requested the Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (Sars) to impose definitive antidumping duties on imports of top-loader washing machines from China and Thailand from April 23.
It has requested that definitive duties ranging from 9.39% to 67.11% be imposed on top-loader washing machines imported from China and Thailand.
Appliance manufacturer Defy Appliances made an application to Itac alleging that fully automatic top-load machines, of a dry linen capacity of 10 kg to 17 kg, were being imported into the Southern African Customs Union (Sacu) at dumped prices.
The company is the only producer of the subject product in the Sacu.
After receiving comments and responses from interested parties, Itac made a final determination that there was sufficient information to indicate that dumping of fully automatic top-load machines, with a dry linen capacity of 10 kg to 17 kg, is taking place, and that the Sacu industry was experiencing material injury because of the dumped imports from China and Thailand.
